If you own a Samsung ML-1670 printer and are trying to use it with macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later, you’ve probably noticed that Apple no longer includes the necessary drivers. Fortunately, I found a workaround that allows this printer to work on macOS Sonoma 14.5.
Step 1: Download the Samsung Printer Drivers
Since the official drivers for the Samsung ML-1670 printer are no longer updated for macOS versions beyond OS X Mavericks (10.9), you’ll need to download the last available version from Apple’s support site:
🔗 Download Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6
However, the installer may not function properly on macOS 11 and later. That’s where Pacifist, a third-party tool, comes in handy.
Step 2: Extract and Install Drivers Using Pacifist
Since the default installer might not work, follow these steps to manually install the drivers:
- Download Pacifist
- Visit the official Pacifist website and install the application.
- Extract and Install the Drivers
- Open Pacifist.
- Use Pacifist to open the downloaded
SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg
file. - In Pacifist, select SamsungPrinterDrivers.pkg and choose to install the files to their default locations.
- I had to check the box to use an Administrative account for installation.
Step 3: Connect and Add the Printer
Now that the drivers are installed, follow these steps to set up your printer:
- Connect your Samsung ML-1670 printer via USB and power it on.
- Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
- Click “+” to add a new printer.
- When selecting a driver, ML-1670 is not listed.
- Instead, select “Samsung ML-1860 Series” – this driver works perfectly with the ML-1670.
This method successfully got my Samsung ML-1670 working on macOS Sonoma 14.5. If you’re struggling with an older printer on a modern Mac, this workaround might help you too.
